Museum Building - Special Needs Museum

The Special Needs Museum is unique in that its programs do not focus on disabilities but rather on abilities.Everyone has more abilities than disabilities and the programs of the Special Needs Museum focuses on empowering all persons with physical challenges to find aids and vehicles to either overcome the impact of these challenges or to refocus the problem in a manner that allows the individual’s abilities rather than their disabilities to dominate.

For putting pottery fragments together one does not need the use of legs, to read an inscription one could have sensitive fingers as opposed to sharp eyes, to read a ground penetrating radar image one could use their eyes as if looking at an aerial photo or their ears as if using a metal detector. The Special Needs Museum will be a hands-on and cognitive activity center designed to educate people and enable them to explore their potential.
